Alma is the Chief Executive Officer for A. Charles Stewart Consultants, President and Founder of the Louisiana Center for Health Equity (LCHE), Convener of the Campaign for Healthcare for Everyone – Louisiana, and the host of a weekly radio show, Today's Health Topics on WTQT 106.1 FM. Her career began as a registered nurse working in the charity hospital system, and includes public health, faith-based, private hospitals and long term care nursing positions. Alma retired from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the early 2000s. She holds a certificate and specializes in organization development. She is a subject matter expert in areas pertaining to health equity and disability concerns. Her consultation has included national, state and local level initiatives. Alma organized the Campaign for Healthcare for Everyone – Louisiana, an initiative of LCHE. After a three year battle, Louisiana became the first state in the Deep South to expand ACA Medicaid, a victory for healthcare and health equity advocates.
