Dr. James Gavin is chief executive officer and chief medical officer of Healing Our Village, Inc., in Atlanta, Georgia, a company that specializes in targeted advocacy, training, education, and outreach for healthcare professionals and minority communities. He is also a clinical professor of medicine at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, and at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Gavin is also chairman of the board of Partnership for a Healthier America, an independent, not-for-profit group working with the private sector to reduce childhood obesity. He belongs to numerous organizations, including the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Sciences, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and the American Diabetes Association, of which he is a past president. Dr. Gavin has authored or co-authored more than 225 articles and abstracts in publications such as Science, the Journal of Applied Physiology, Diabetes, and the American Journal of Physiology, and has served on many advisory boards and on the editorial board of the American Journal of the Medical Sciences, US Endocrinology, and the American Journal of Physiology.
