Jean Wiecha is a senior scientist at RTI International and is nationally known for her work in childhood obesity, with 25 years of research and leadership in community, academia, and state govern­ment settings. A co-founder and co-chair of the Healthy Out-of-School Time Coalition, Dr. Wiecha participated in leading the development and dissemination of the National AfterSchool Association healthy eating and physical activity standards, which have been adopted by major national youth-serving organizations serving many thousands of children and teens.  Areas of expertise include designing and evaluating interventions; promoting and assessing physical activity and nutrition; implementation science; community-based participatory research; and epidemiology and biology of obesity. Dr. Wiecha focuses on fostering organizational changes that support health promotion in community settings.  She has a doctorate and master’s degree in human nutrition from Tufts University.
