Val W. Slayton, MD, MPP, MBA, FACP is Regional Vice President, East Region and Division Clinical Lead, Northeast Division for Humana Senior Products. In this role, he leads utilization management and health service delivery for the East region, and represents clinical management to external provider organizations.

Prior to joining Humana in January 2016, he was Medical Director with Molina Healthcare Ohio, working with Dual Eligible Medicare-Medicaid members. Previously, he held several hospital leadership positions, including Vice President Medical Affairs with Jewish Hospital and St. Mary’s Healthcare (Louisville area) and Chief Medical Officer for UMassMemorial HealthAlliance Hospital (MA).  Earlier in his career, Dr. Slayton was Chief Medical Officer for Fallon Community Health Plan (MA) and Vice President Medical Affairs Western Region for HealthAmerica (PA). 

He earned his Medical Degree at Harvard Medical School, a Masters Degree in Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government, and an MBA from the University of Massachusetts. He is a Board Certified Internist, completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

He is co-chair of the Humana Louisville Bold Goal Board of Directors, and a member of the Louisville Health Advisory Board and its Behavioral Health Subcommittee. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Dare to Care Food Bank as well as the Board for the Louisville affiliate of the National Alliance for Mental Illness.  He has previously served as an Examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award at both the national and state level.
