Unique Perspectives and Innovative Partnerships – What AmeriCorps Members Bring to Public Health

Changes within public health agencies (i.e. workforce retirement, significant turnover, advancing technology, and changing patterns of disease) are converging to reshape the role of public health within broader economic, health care, and policy environments. These changes reinforce the need for a strong public health workforce that can strategically work across sectors to address the social and economic factors that drive health. To foster these nontraditional partnerships, messaging must break out of the conventional silo of public health and appeal to a broader audience.

Please join this Dialogue4Health Web Forum showcasing how the current partnerships with AmeriCorps service programs and opioid related work in the US create a microcosm to explore the power of collaborating with “outside” perspectives to build a new public health workforce--one focused on uniting diverse cross-sector partners around the common goal of building healthy communities. The panel will feature AmeriCorps members from three opioid programs who will discuss the role their host program is filling in the community and the unique perspective they are bringing to the work. This Web Forum is co-sponsored by Center for Health Leadership and Practice, Public Health Institute, and Corporation for National and Community Service AmeriCorps Programs. The panelists will address attendees’ questions in the Q&A session.

Registration is free and closed captioning is available to all attendees. This event is recommended for anyone working in public health, including: local and state health departments, non-profit organizations, advocacy, business, community-based organizations, education, faith-based organizations, hospitals/health systems, insurance, housing, harm reduction, and other interested parties.
