Dr. Colleen Spees is an Associate Professor in the Division of Medical Dietetics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. In addition, she is an active member of OSU’s prestigious Comprehensive Cancer Center and holds academic appointments in both the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) and the College of Education and Human Ecology (EHE).

Colleen’s primary focus of research involves developing, implementing, and testing biobehavioral interventions aimed at providing optimal nutrition for vulnerable populations. In this capacity, she seeks to improve access to culturally appropriate, health-promoting and functional foods by impacting food availability, food access, food quality, and food use. Dr. Spees’ latest research is currently testing the efficacy of remote nutrition counseling and medically tailored meals in reducing malnutrition throughout active cancer treatment and survivorship.

Dr. Spees is a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and serves on the Executive Committee for the Academy’s Oncology Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group. She is the recipient of the Distinguished Practice Award, Distinguished Service Award, and Award for Excellence in Oncology Nutrition Research. Dr. Spees is also co-author of the Wardlaw Contemporary Nutrition textbooks and serves on the ACS Scientific Review Panels for the Dietary and Physical Activity Guidelines for Cancer Prevention and Survivorship.
