Graciela Razo is the Harm Reduction Coordinator at Safe Horizon Streetwork Project in New York City. Graciela got her Bachelor’s degree from University of North Texas in journalism and political science, then made her way to New York City to work at Streetwork Project in 2013. She started as an overnight outreach worker with the goal of connecting youth who were engaging in sex work to services and support. Graciela then moved to Streetwork’s Lower East Side drop-in center as a Youth Advocate running the drop-in space. She eventually moved into a case management role, then as of 2017 has stepped in as Harm Reduction Coordinator. Graciela has presented about Streetwork at various conferences and organizations, such as the Youth Wellbeing Summit in 2019, the SYNC conference in 2020, the Harm Reduction Coalition’s Substance Use & Pregnancy toolkit launch panel, and as a guest lecturer at New York University and Hunter College’s social work classes. Graciela also manages a team a peer workers who can more effectively engage youth around their substance use, overdose prevention and housing support. Through the development of various safer drug use kits, harm reduction groups and one-on-one counseling, Graciela’s focus at Streetwork is to provide unconditional love and support to homeless youth and to advocate for safer consumption spaces and expanded Naloxone access.
