Although opioid use dominates substance use prevention and treatment efforts, stimulant use is also a major driver of the overdose crisis across the United States. Approximately 60% of overdose deaths involve stimulants such as methamphetamine and cocaine, and drug overdose deaths involving stimulants without opioids continue to rise. Contingency management, also known as recovery incentives, is one of the few evidence-based interventions proven effective for stimulant use disorder. This evidence-based behavioral therapy offers individuals tangible rewards, such as gift cards, vouchers, or prizes, for meeting treatment goals.
