San Diego Playwright Project
Frank Kensaku "Ken" Saragosa was once a tenured American Literature professor, but alcoholism and substance use disorder destroyed his career. He spent years as a methamphetamine addict, leading to homelessness and multiple prison stints. Today, he is an award-winning author in recovery and inspires people to convey compassion for those going through addiction, homelessness, criminality, and incarceration.
He is a teaching artist for Playwrights Project, which takes playwriting classes into jails in San Diego County, and at California State prisons. With them, he taught at-risk young people in the Juvenile Court and Community Schools, and has taught adults at Father Joe's Villages.
